Chatwoot

chatwoot.com/

Chatwoot is an open-source customer support platform — pitched as an Intercom/Zendesk alternative — combining an omnichannel help desk, an AI assistant called Captain, and a knowledge base, available either self-hosted or cloud. It leads with concrete adoption figures rather than adjectives: a 4.5+ G2 rating, 25,000 GitHub stars, and 15,000+ business customers. Its open-source positioning is stated plainly ("Proudly open source — host on your own infrastructure and own your data"), and the page demonstrates the Captain AI assistant through an actual sample dialogue rather than a static screenshot, alongside investor logos for Y Combinator and Goat Capital in the footer.

Chatwoot design review: how the homepage is built

Chatwoot's homepage runs about 9,539 pixels tall on desktop and alternates pale gradient bands with white sections of feature cards. Its colour approach uses bright blue #2781f6 for the main buttons and the sign-up control, set against a warm cream #ece4d8 in the hero background. The headline is set in Haskoy, the only display face listed for the page. The page leans on a large screenshot of a support inbox rather than an abstract illustration. The name on the page matches the Chatwoot entry in the catalog.

Above the fold

The hero stacks a pill reading "Introducing Voice calls in Chatwoot" above the headline "The modern customer support tool for your business". The subhead continues "AI assistant, omnichannel support desk, knowledge base." Two buttons follow, a filled "Start your free trial" and an outlined "Request a demo", with "4.5+ rating" and "36k stars" badges on the right. Below, a wide screenshot of the inbox shows conversation lists, a chat thread and a contact panel, with "Trusted by 15,000+ businesses" beneath it.

Captain AI and omnichannel desk

The block headed "Cut down on support questions with Captain, your AI assistant" holds cards titled "Automate conversations with Captain" and "Boost productivity with Captain Copilot", with a chat mock between them. The section "Keep all your customer conversations in one place" lists channel icons beside cards titled "Create a live chat widget that fits your brand" and "Engage with your customers on WhatsApp". A quote from "Prateek Jogani" sits between the two blocks.

Help center and open-source block

The help-centre block, "Deliver smooth self-service experiences with our Help Center", pairs a card on "Personalize content for every customer segment" with a search mock for "custom domain". A quote from "Aron Wagner" follows. The open-source block, "Proudly open source - host on your own infrastructure and own your data", pairs a rising line chart with the stat labels "Stars on GitHub" and "Contributors" beside a grid of security tiles.

Closing section and footer

The closing area shows a "SOC 2 Type II compliant" panel with a "Read more" button. The footer opens with the chatwoot wordmark, the line "An alternative to Intercom and Zendesk.", social icons and "Backed By" logos beside a "Platform partner" badge. Link columns read "Product", "Company" and "Resources", ending with "© 2026 Chatwoot Inc. All rights reserved" along the bottom.

On mobile

At 390 pixels the headline wraps onto three lines and the inbox screenshot shrinks to a narrow strip beneath the buttons. The logo row is cut off at the screen edge, and the Captain cards stack into one long column with a Copilot chat mock between them. The footer link columns become one stacked list, and the page runs about 11,258 pixels tall.

Worth borrowing

  • The hero puts a rating and star count beside the call-to-action row.
  • The Captain section pairs product mockups with one quote, tying each card to a visible feature.
  • The open-source block uses a rising line chart beside stat labels.
