Temporal

temporal.io/

Temporal is an open-source platform for "durable execution" — it automatically checkpoints application state so workflows resume from where they failed rather than requiring developers to hand-write retry and recovery logic, summarized on the site as letting engineers "write code as if failure doesn't exist." The page backs this with specific, checkable numbers: a $12.55B valuation from its Series E, 23,216 GitHub stars, a trailing 30-day uptime of 99.999%, and "9 years in production." It draws a direct line to its AI positioning with a quote from OpenAI's VP of App Infrastructure calling durable execution "a core requirement for modern AI systems," alongside logos from Uber, Salesforce, NVIDIA and Stripe, and offers both self-hosted (MIT-licensed) and managed cloud versions.

Temporal design review: how the homepage is built

The Temporal homepage runs about 14,225 pixels on desktop and is mostly a sequence of left-aligned text rows beside illustrations: a centered hero, a logo strip, an interactive workflow demo, seven feature rows, a use-case grid, customer video cards, two quotes, open-source and hosting rows, a gradient closing banner and a footer. Colour is a dark charcoal ground with violet "#a765fd" and blue "#434ce8" accents and mint green eyebrows. Type pairs Aeonik headlines with Noto Sans Mono for buttons and labels. Distinctive for infrastructure software is a live code-and-timeline demo placed directly beneath the hero.

Above the fold

A blue bar reading "Temporal welcomes experts from OSO" carries "About", "Careers" and "Talk to Sales". The nav centers five links, with search and GitHub icons, a purple "Try Free" button and an outlined "Log In". The hero sits centered on a violet perspective grid: "The world's best AI runs on Temporal", a two-line subhead naming five customers, a gradient "Get Started for Free" button and a text link, "Run Locally". A scrolling logo strip begins with "OpenAI".

Interactive demo and SDK rows

"Watch a Workflow recover from failure" opens a full-width demo with a scenario dropdown, a progress bar ("Workflow runs", "Something breaks", "It recovers") and "Play" and "Start Over" controls. Beneath are a code editor with language tabs, a console and an event timeline of coloured bars. Rows then keep text left and illustration right: "Write code as if failure doesn't exist", "You have to see it to believe it" with a "Watch a Demo" button, and "Create failproof apps using our SDKs" beside language tiles.

Architecture rows, use cases and customers

Four more rows, from "Build Workflows that handle failures for you" to "Get full visibility into your running code", pair text with green-bordered architecture diagrams, ending on a dashboard screenshot. "Common patterns and use cases" is a three-by-three grid of bordered cards with icons, titles and short descriptions. "Global enterprises and top startups choose Temporal" shows four video cards for NVIDIA, Salesforce, Twilio and Descript, each with a "Watch" link.

Quotes, open source and footer

Two white quote cards, from OpenAI and HashiCorp people, sit on a blue-to-orange gradient band. Three text rows follow, including "100% open-source" with a "23,561 Stars" badge and "Fully battle tested, 9 years in production". A full-gradient banner, "Build invincible applications", holds three outlined buttons. The footer shows "ALL SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL", a newsletter field, five link columns and social icons.

On mobile

The mobile capture is 374 pixels wide and 16,384 pixels tall. The hero headline wraps to three lines and the two calls to action stack. The demo's code lines clip at the right edge and the language tabs wrap. Each row puts text first and the illustration below. The nine use-case cards stack in one column, video cards and quotes go full-width, closing buttons stack, and footer columns become one long list.

Worth borrowing

  • Place an interactive code-and-timeline demo under the hero so behaviour shows before feature copy.
  • Label repeated rows with mint monospace eyebrows such as "HOW IT WORKS".
  • Use one full-bleed gradient band for quotes and reuse it for the closing banner.
