Lume

lume.ai/

Lume built software that automated customer-data onboarding for other companies — using AI to discover a new customer's database schema, propose data mappings, check data quality, and auto-generate the dbt code needed to pipe that data in. As of this review, the live site is not a product page but a shutdown-and-acquisition notice: it states "Lume is joining Harvey" as of March 3, 2026, and frames the company's work as "eliminating the bottleneck between software teams and their customers' data." Rather than pitching the product going forward, the page describes the problem it solved in past tense — "software teams were spending days, weeks, or months wrestling with legacy ERPs, custom databases, and messy schemas" — and closes with investor logos (Y Combinator, General Catalyst, Khosla Ventures, Floodgate, Soma Capital) as its credibility signal. No functioning product page or About page remains.

Lume design review: how the homepage is built

This page shows the brand Lume, but it is a one-purpose announcement rather than a product site, 1962 px tall at 1440 px wide. The order is a one-item header, a dotted-grid hero, a text-only story block, a row of investor logos and a thin footer. Colour is white with near-black text and one violet, #443ff0, on the primary button, the italic word and the date, with #aba9f9 as a paler tint. Playfair Display sets the headline and story heading, while Geist and Geist Mono carry body copy and small uppercase labels. No product imagery appears anywhere.

Above the fold

The header holds only the Lume logo mark and wordmark at the left, above a hairline rule. Below, a pill pair shows "Lume" in faded grey, a violet arrow, then "Harvey" in a darker pill. The centred serif headline "Lume is joining Harvey." sets the last word in violet italics, with the monospace date "MARCH 3, 2026" under it. Two buttons sit side by side: a filled "Read the announcement" and an outlined "Learn about Harvey →".

The story text block

A small monospace label, "OUR STORY", introduces a three-line serif heading, "Built to eliminate the bottleneck between software teams and their customers' data." Three grey paragraphs follow in one left-aligned column about half the page wide, leaving the right side empty. The first explains why the product was built, the second thanks customers, investors and teammates, and the third names backers including Y Combinator.

Investor logo strip

A hairline rule separates the story from a row labelled "BACKED BY" in small grey monospace capitals. Four greyscale logos sit on one line: "GENERAL CATALYST" with its circular mark, a boxed "Y Combinator", the large lowercase "khosla ventures" and a compact "FLOODGATE" wordmark.

Closing section and footer

There is no separate closing call to action; the two hero buttons are the only buttons on the page. The footer is a single line under a hairline rule. At the left it reads "© 2026 Lume AI Inc." followed by "Terms of Service" and "Privacy Policy" in grey. At the right sit "Questions?" and the violet link "support@lume.ai", beside a small LinkedIn icon.

On mobile

At 390 px the page grows to 2209 px tall. The pill pair stays on one row, but the headline wraps so "Harvey." drops to its own violet italic line. The two buttons stack, centred, filled one first. The story heading and paragraphs fill the full column in larger body type, so the three paragraphs run far longer. The footer stacks the copyright, the two legal links and the support address on separate lines.

Worth borrowing

  • A pill pair joined by a violet arrow, "Lume" then "Harvey", explains the transition visually before any text is read.
  • Setting one word of a serif headline in violet italics gives a single focal point on an otherwise monochrome page.
  • A greyscale "BACKED BY" logo row closes the story with credibility while staying quiet beside the one saturated button.
