Exa
exa.ai/
Exa is a search API built for AI agents rather than human browsers, indexing public web and private content for programmatic retrieval, with its homepage headline reading "Search the largest index of public web and private information." Instead of general performance praise, it publishes head-to-head benchmark numbers against named competitors: 54.4% accuracy on the FRAMES benchmark versus 44.5% and 21.6% for others, and sub-180ms response times for its "Exa Instant" product versus 260ms–3,051ms elsewhere. It also breaks out accuracy by search vertical (62% for company search, 63% for people search, 71% for code search) and states a "zero data retention" policy alongside SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA compliance.

The homepage runs 7,987 pixels at 1440px and moves from a centred hero with a live query demo through a logo grid, a dark benchmark chart, three product cards, a dark security block, an index-statistics section, case studies and a full-bleed blue footer. Light sections use near-white grounds with "#111827" text, while pale blue "#b7d7f8" tiles flank the hero and a saturated royal blue marks charts and footer. Headlines use a serif face (Arizona), with ABCDiatype and Inter elsewhere. Distinctive for its category are monospace counters and a working-looking API console in the hero.
Above the fold
A pale blue banner announces "Introducing Exa Connect: Access leading data providers." Beneath it, the nav lists "Products", "Resources", "Enterprise", "Blog", "Docs" and "Pricing", with "Contact sales" and a black "Sign up". A centred serif headline, "The world's data for AI agents", leads to one black "Try API for free" button and a query box with a results table, flanked by scattered sky-photo tiles.
Logo grid, benchmarks and product cards
"Join 500,000 developers building AI on top of the world's information." sits above a six-by-two bordered logo grid, including Vercel, Cursor and AWS. A dark panel titled "Highest quality search at every latency" has three tabs and a bar chart where blue Exa bars reach 62%, 63% and 71%. "Designed to make your Agent smarter" then shows three image cards with grey link buttons, each with a customer note beneath.
Security, index scale and case studies
"Enterprise-grade security and controls" fills a dark block with six badge-and-caption items in two rows of three. "Training retrieval models at massive scale" follows beside a blue dot cloud, with staggered cards for "100 BILLION", "1.4 TRILLION" and "1500 QUADRILLION", plus counters for searches completed today. "Trusted by world-class teams to find the data they need" shows a large Cognition quote with a portrait, a monday.com stat and a HubSpot photo card.
Closing section and footer
A centred closing block repeats the offer with "Search built for your AI", a one-line subhead and a black "Try API for free" button on white. Below it, a full-width royal blue band ends the page. The footer opens with "EXA LABS INC." over "Imagine a world with perfect search", then link groups "Products", "Company", "Developers", "Resources" and "Connect", ending with "Privacy" and "Terms".
On mobile
At 390px the page runs 10,744 pixels. The hero button spans the full width and the logo grid becomes two columns. The benchmark chart opens on the "Latency" tab as horizontal bars. Product cards stack with images below text, security items and counters run in single columns, and case studies become three stacked cards. Footer links fall into two columns.
Worth borrowing
- Showing a working query and results table in the hero lets the product demonstrate itself before any feature copy.
- Switching tabs on the benchmark chart, such as "Accuracy" and "Latency", lets one panel carry several comparisons.
- Setting very large monospace counters beside plain captions makes scale claims read as measurements.
