Gusto
gusto.com/
Gusto is payroll, benefits, and HR software for small businesses, built around a feature it brands 'AutoPilot,' which runs payroll automatically once set up. The homepage leads with 'Hire, pay, and grow like a pro' and states payroll can be run in five minutes flat, with taxes filed and compliance handled alongside it. It backs the pitch with a specific customer survey rather than vague satisfaction language: 9 out of 10 customers would recommend Gusto, with an average of 152 hours a year saved on tax and compliance, a 4.5+ star rating, and more than 500,000 businesses on the platform, all attributed to a survey of 538 Gusto customers from September 2024. The page also acknowledges a recent rebrand directly in its copy: 'New brand. Same heart... Gusto has a new look, a new voice, and a glowed-up Penny.'

The 8,890px homepage runs from a full-bleed red hero to a "500,000+ businesses run on Gusto." proof block, an AutoPilot slider, a photo-backed hiring panel, a story carousel, an eight-card services grid, a stats band, a dark teal sign-up block, a "Compare plans" CTA and the footer. Red and pink gradients (#f74537, #f76a77) contrast with deep teal and pastel illustration cards. Serif headlines pair with a sans body, matching the listed Boogy Brut and Matter fonts. Hand-drawn illustrations and a rounded-corner panel transition give a payroll product a playful tone.
HeroesView crop
A red-to-pink wave gradient fills the entire hero area, with the white serif headline, centered, "Hire, pay, and grow like a pro.". A two-line subhead and two buttons follow: a white "Create free account" and an outlined "How Gusto works".
FeaturesView crop
The first slide pairs the numbered heading "— 01 Run payroll in five minutes flat." with a hand holding a phone, cropped into a pink hexagon. A ruled block adds "Better yet, let AutoPilot™ run it for you." and a "Discover payroll" link.
FootersView crop
The footer runs four columns: "Pricing" with "For Accountants"; "Get Started" with "Services"; "Company" with "Licenses"; and "Resources" with "Tools". A "Talk Shop" blog strip and six social icons close it. Teal text highlights "We're hiring!", the phone number and two license IDs.
TestimonialsView crop
Under "Small business success is no small thing." a carousel mixes card types: a news card "New brand. Same heart.", a large teal quote from Jesse Mason of Mason's Creamery, a photo card "Helping the helpers." and a clipped card.
CTAsView crop
A dark teal block holds a "Get started" pill, "Ready to work with Gusto?" and a white "Sign up for free" button. Four pastel illustrated cards follow in a row: "See plans and pricing", "Compare Gusto", "Explore the demo", "Talk to sales".
PricingView crop
The pricing page sets "Customize your Gusto plan with powerful add-ons." on teal. Under a "Payroll" heading, seven white cards sit in two columns, such as "Instant pay" and "Same-day pay", each with a price line like "$100 per payroll".
Affiliate pagesView crop
The affiliate page opens with "Introduce your audience to modern payroll, benefits, and more." beside a photo and a "Sign up with Impact" button. Three icons read "$200+ per sale", "120 day cookie tracking" and "Dedicated affiliate team"; a beige band lists five reward bullets.
Careers pagesView crop
The 7,199px careers page stacks bands: "Help us grow the small business economy with technology and heart." with a purple phrase, a lilac "AI at Gusto" band of three cards, four value cards, teal benefit cards, office tabs, and "Ready to join the team?".
Blog pagesView crop
The "Company News" blog sets a secondary header above "What's New at Gusto". A featured post, "Bolder, brighter, gutsier: the thinking behind Gusto's new brand", sits beside a mosaic of brand tiles. A three-column card grid follows, each with a serif title.
About UsView crop
The about page opens with "We're making work meaningful for everyone, everywhere." over a centered team photo. A pink band holds "Our small business platform helps businesses take care of their hardworking teams." Four value icons follow, then three link cards.
Contact UsView crop
The contact page opens with "We'd love to hear from you." and two cards, "Contact support" and "Contact sales". A sales form sits beside a warehouse photo, with six stacked fields from "First name" to "Number of employees" and a teal "Submit" button.
On mobile
At 390px the hero keeps its gradient with full-width stacked buttons. Photos collapse into strips, the eight service cards stack into one column with shortened copy, and the four CTA cards become tall single tiles. The footer turns into accordion rows with chevrons, and text stays legible.
Worth borrowing
- Mix card types in one carousel, as the story row does, with a teal quote card between photo cards.
- Follow a sign-up block with four pastel illustrated cards, one colour per next step.
- Tint bands differently on secondary pages, such as pink on about, to mark changes without dividers.
