Descript
descript.com/
Descript is a video and audio editor built around a transcript: users edit the text of a recording and the video cuts to match, rather than dragging clips on a timeline. The homepage leads with an AI assistant it calls "Underlord" for automated editing tasks, alongside features like background-noise removal and automatic captions. Rather than generic testimonials, it cites specific case-study numbers from named customers — Cloudinary cutting post-production time by half, Algolia saving 116 hours, HubSpot doubling content output — and displays a G2 rating of 4.6 out of 5 across 837 reviews. The client logo row (Amazon, Canva, Spotify, Reuters) sits right up top rather than lower down the page, and compliance badges (SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, SAML SSO) appear before any pricing is shown.

The Descript homepage measures about 9,552 pixels at desktop width and moves from a dark burgundy hero through a tabbed workflow carousel and a use-case switcher to a pale pink business section, reviews, FAQ, a dark closing banner and a black footer. Colour is anchored by #390a1a and #772a4d backgrounds with #f73b3b on every primary button, then flips to near-white pink for the enterprise half. Headlines use a heavy serif, labels a pixel-style monospace, and the chat-style editor mockups act as the main imagery.
Above the fold
A white rounded navigation bar holds the logo, "Features", "Underlord", "Solutions", "Resources", "Pricing", "Contact sales", "Sign in" and a plum "Sign up" button. Under a red "AI VIDEO EDITOR" label, the serif headline reads "AI-editing for every kind of video" with one red "Get started for free" button. A transcript editor and an "Underlord" chat panel overlap, flanked by cropped portrait photos.
Proof and workflow carousels
A line asks "Is that good enough for you?" above six logos including Vox, Reuters, CBS and Spotify, then three dark quote cards from LinkedIn, Revelo and HubSpot. "The whole workflow, right here" adds tabs for "Record", "Edit", "Refine", "Share" and "Multiply" over a numbered card with arrows. "AI tools that change what's possible" is a second carousel whose card, "Text-based editing", has a red "Edit video now" button.
Use cases and business proof
"All your video starts (and finishes) here" lists six numbered use cases, from "Video podcasts" to "Screen recording", beside a large video still and a "Start your podcast" button. The background then switches to pale pink for "Enterprise-grade security, brand controls, and collaboration", with three certification cards and three metric cards showing "50%", "116 HRS" and "+100%" in pixel type. A G2 rating of 4.6 precedes three lavender review cards.
Closing section and footer
A "Frequently asked questions" heading sits left of an accordion with seven questions, starting with "What is Descript?". The dark banner "From raw footage to finished video, faster" repeats "Get started for free" beside a grey "Book a demo", above a strip of staggered video thumbnails. The black footer has a logo, four social icons and columns titled "Features", "Product", "Resources" and "Company", plus a boxed "Guides" and "Tools" panel.
On mobile
At 390px the headline wraps to three lines and the editor mockup shrinks to a thumbnail under the button. The logo row scrolls horizontally, and carousel cards show a peek of the next card. Use cases become an accordion with "Video podcasts" open. Certification and metric cards stack singly, review cards scroll sideways, and both closing buttons run full width. The footer splits into two columns.
Worth borrowing
- A single red button colour repeated on a dark ground makes the primary action findable in every section.
- Switching the background from burgundy to pale pink marks the shift from creator features to enterprise credentials.
- Pixel-style numerals on metric cards give customer results a distinct, scannable treatment.
