Paper

paper.design/

Paper (paper.design) is a browser- and desktop-based design canvas built on HTML/CSS that connects design work to live code and AI agents via the Model Context Protocol, so layouts sync with real components and real data instead of static mockups. Its hero reads "design incredible" with the subhead "the connected canvas for teams shipping with agents," and section headers carry unusually blunt copy for the category — "goodbye lorem ipsum" and "anti-slop" — arguing against both placeholder content and low-quality AI output in the same breath. The site states it raised a $34M Series A from Accel and ICONIQ and lists production users including Ramp, Vercel, Perplexity, and PostHog, using a recurring "Vinyl Sundays" music-app mockup as its running worked example throughout the page.

Paper design review: how the homepage is built

Paper’s 9,312-pixel homepage turns an off-white field into a working canvas with construction lines, rulers, thin frames, and pixel-like square motifs. Matter is the listed display face, visible in large lowercase headlines. Black actions and blue controls concentrate contrast against #eae8dd. The page moves from a connected-canvas introduction to Paper Desktop, a design-to-code loop, content and agent workflows, a large circular closing field, roadmap and news cards, then a multi-column footer. Repeated music-app screens and terminal overlays make the relation between canvas and code visible.

Canvas opening

Paper sits at upper left beside “pricing”, “roadmap”, “blog”, “changelog”, and “docs”; “sign up” and “downloads →” end the row. The hero headline and subhead sit above “download Paper” and “open Paper in the browser →”. A large window combines pages and layers, a Vinyl Sundays music screen, a terminal card, and an inspector. The drafting grid continues behind it, connecting the product view to the surrounding layout.

Desktop and continuous loop

Brand marks follow “used in production by designers at”, before “Introducing Paper Desktop” and “a fully connected canvas, a whole new workflow”. App icons and a blue download action lead into a semicircle titled “design to code and back”. The next workspace overlaps a code panel with the Vinyl Sundays canvas. Two cells read “connect any agent to your canvas” and “design and code, one language”, tying the workflow claims to the image.

Content and agent workflow

“connected to real content, real data, from anywhere” introduces a music table and command card. “prompt to get data from anywhere” and “update content from your canvas” explain its two directions. “hand off boilerplate work, focus on the human touch” switches to phone artboards with a terminal overlay. “agents that see your canvas” and “stay in control” frame that image before the layout reaches its rounded closing field.

Roadmap and footer

The closing circle carries “the full-circle, anti-slop workflow for humans and agents” above a download control. “Paper Roadmap” appears beside geometric squares and a “view the roadmap” button. A two-card row covers “what's new in Paper” and “Paper raises $34M Series A”, each with imagery and a link. The footer divides Paper, Tools, Community, Resources, Compare, and Legal into compact columns on the same pale surface.

On mobile

At 390 pixels, the headline, subhead, and download action form a narrow opening. The wide product interface becomes a tall crop in which terminal prompts and phone artboards are clearer than side panels. Desktop’s adjacent explanation cells become one vertical run of headings, screenshots, and copy. Both circular closing fields remain prominent. Roadmap and news become consecutive cards, while the footer condenses into a multi-column inventory with tool links nearest the Paper mark.

Worth borrowing

  • Construction lines can connect an interface to its narrative.
  • Repeated working canvases make a design-to-code claim concrete.
  • A rounded closing field creates a pause before company material.
