Polar

polar.sh/

Polar is a billing platform built specifically for AI and ML companies, handling usage metering of tokens, API calls, and compute alongside subscriptions, invoicing, checkout, and payouts, while acting as merchant of record across 100+ markets to absorb tax and compliance work. Its headline, "The billing stack for the intelligence era," is paired with copy claiming to be "the only billing stack that knows your margins" by tracking true gross margin per customer against underlying compute costs. Pricing is published directly on the homepage, from a free 5%-plus-$0.50-per-transaction tier up to $400/month at 3.4%, and its testimonials come from named technical founders — Guillermo Rauch, Mitchell Hashimoto, and Sebastián Ramírez — rather than generic buyer titles.

Polar design review: what the page does, section by section

The page runs 13,460 pixels at 1440px wide, in this order: an announcement bar reading "Introducing the Polar Startup Program", navigation, the hero "Meet Polar", four icon cards, then paired-column blocks labelled "Platform", "Meter everything", "Sell globally", "Unit economics", "What people say", "Pricing" and "Startup Program", followed by a closing call to action and footer. Colour stays near-black: #090909 as the ground, #383838 and #565656 for edges and dividers, #878787 for secondary grey text, #fefefe for headlines and buttons. Headlines use PP Neue Montreal. Unusual for a billing product, the page leans on thin line drawings and small mock widgets rather than dashboard screenshots.

HeroesView crop

The hero sets "Meet Polar" in white above "The billing stack for the intelligence era" in grey, with one white pill button, "Get Started". Below sit four equal dark cards, "Usage billing", "Subscriptions", "Seats" and "Credits", each with a white line icon above a title and one grey sentence.

FeaturesView crop

Under the label "Meter everything" on the left, the right column carries the headline "Every token becomes revenue" with the second line in grey. Four cards follow, "Measure the usage", "Aggregate into meters", "Calculate the charge" and "Bill it automatically", each topped by a radiating-line drawing that grows denser left to right.

PricingView crop

A split header places "Pricing" at left and "Pricing that scales with you" at right, beside "Get Started" and "Contact Sales" buttons. Four cards follow: "Starter" Free, "Pro" $20, "Growth" $100 and "Scale" $400 per month, each listing a per-transaction rate such as "3.40% + 30¢" and two to four checkmarked perks.

Pricing & PlansView crop

This is the standalone pricing page, a long document inside one rounded panel titled "Pricing". A contents list names six parts, from "Introduction" to "Dispute/Chargeback Fees". Left labels pair with right-hand prose, and tables cover plan rates, breakeven sales thresholds, a worked $30 Sweden purchase and fee comparisons.

About UsView crop

The company page opens with "Small team, big ambitions" and a row of black-and-white team photos, then "Mission" with the line "billing = fn(events)". "How we work" lists five numbered principles, brand artwork, "Join us" with five open roles grouped by team, and a four-column "Backers" name list.

Blog pagesView crop

The blog index centres the title "Blog" and a one-sentence description above a two-column grid of post cards. Each card has a thumbnail, a white title and a grey line of category and date, such as "Blog · June 16, 2026". Only one card is labelled "Customer Story".

FootersView crop

The footer splits in half: at left the Polar logo, an underlined "Get Started" link and "© Polar Software, Inc. 2026"; at right four small-grey-headed link lists, "Features" with nine links, "Resources" with four, "Company" with six including "Cookie Preferences", and "Support" with three.

On mobile

At 390px the four-up card rows collapse into single full-width cards, so the hero icons each occupy a screen of scroll. The "Get Started" button stays directly under the hero headline. Pricing tiers stack vertically, and text remains readable throughout, with no broken capture.

Worth borrowing

  • Pair a short white label at left with a two-tone headline at right, white then grey, to give every block one rhythm.
  • Use thin white line icons on near-black cards, like the radiating drawings that thicken across "Measure the usage" to "Bill it automatically", to show a process without screenshots.
  • Back a four-tier pricing card row with a full pricing page of tables and a worked example.
