What is a logo cloud?

The logo cloud is the cheapest piece of social proof on a SaaS homepage: no quotes to collect, just permission to show a name. That is why it is one of the most common blocks in our catalog, typically the first thing after the hero.

Most are grayscale or single-color so a dozen brands read as one calm band instead of competing with the CTA. Placement varies: Grafana puts a row of eight customer logos directly under its hero buttons, while Storyflow pairs its row with a specific line, "Creatives working for these brands already got early access". Beehiiv animates its logos as a marquee.

The best logo clouds add context. Oysterhr and Merge tag some logos with "Case Study" labels that link to the story behind the name, turning decoration into proof a visitor can check. On mobile, watch for strips that shrink to two or three logos; Zeplin's cuts off after three.

When to use a logo cloud, and when not to

Use it for

  • Recognizable customersEven five logos a visitor knows do more than a paragraph about being trusted.
  • Right after the heroIt answers "who uses this?" at the moment a visitor decides whether to keep reading.
  • Segment proofGrouping logos by industry or size shows each audience someone like them already uses it.

Avoid it for

  • Unknown namesLogos nobody recognizes add visual noise; a number or one strong testimonial works better.
  • Without permissionShowing a customer's logo without approval is a legal and trust risk.
  • Repeated down the pageThree logo strips on one page dilute each other; use one and link it to stories.

The row sits inside the first screen, directly below the buttons.

Often confused with

Logo cloud vs. social proof

Social proof is the broad category; a logo cloud is one specific form of it, alongside testimonials, ratings and user counts.

Logo cloud vs. trust badge

Trust badges show certifications and security (SOC 2, GDPR); a logo cloud shows customers.

Logo cloud vs. marquee

A marquee is the scrolling motion; a logo cloud can be static or use a marquee.

Frequently asked

Should logos be in color or grayscale?

Greyscale or a single tint is the norm because a dozen brand colors fight each other and the CTA. Color can work on a dark band where every logo is white.

How many logos should a logo cloud show?

Five to eight in a single row is typical. More works in a grid or marquee, but recognizability matters more than count.
